Dalton Smith Arrested for Stealing John Deere Gator in Hancock County, Ill.

Stolen Vehicle Recovered in Iowa After Extensive Investigation

A 33-year-old man, Dalton B. Smith, of Lomax, Ill., has been arrested in connection with the theft of a 2017 John Deere Gator side-by-side from rural Colusa, Ill., in December 2024. Following an extensive investigation, authorities obtained an arrest warrant for Smith on charges of theft of property exceeding $10,000.

Smith was arrested and taken into custody, facing charges related to the stolen vehicle, as well as unrelated drug charges. After appearing before a judge, Smith was later released.

The stolen John Deere Gator was located in Beaverdale, Iowa, and was subsequently returned to its rightful owner.

The investigation was carried out through the collaboration of the Dallas City Police Department, Henderson County Sheriff’s Office, Des Moines County Sheriff’s Office, and the Hancock County State’s Attorney’s Office.
