Alwar, Rajasthan: A major internal fraud case has been uncovered at a D-Mart store in Alwar, where an employee, Narendra from Upala Sonava, is accused of manipulating product barcodes, resulting in losses of several lakh rupees.
D-Mart officials noticed unusual billing patterns during routine audits, prompting a deeper investigation. Narendra allegedly swapped original barcodes of high-value items with counterfeit labels showing lower prices. This manipulation caused the products to scan at reduced amounts at checkout, bypassing immediate detection.
The scam came to light during stock reconciliation and sales audits, revealing discrepancies between the physical inventory and recorded sales. D-Mart management filed a complaint with Aravali Vihar Police, who confirmed the fraudulent activity was deliberate and not a system error.
Narendra has been charged under multiple sections of the IPC, including Section 420 for cheating and fraud, along with forgery-related offenses. Authorities are probing the duration of the scam and whether other staff members or external accomplices were involved.
