METAIRIE, La. — A longtime employee of Deanie’s Seafood was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of stealing tens of thousands of dollars from the Bucktown restaurant and market.

Cynthia Esquerre, 51, of Metairie, was booked with theft valued over $25,000 and 109 counts of computer fraud, according to Sgt. Brandon Veal of the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Esquerre worked for years at the restaurant’s Lake Avenue location, handling both seafood market duties and occasionally serving as an on-duty manager.

Investigators say that between December and February, she allegedly altered cash register transactions and pocketed the cash. Authorities confirmed she stole more than $25,000, though the exact amount has not been disclosed. The thefts were uncovered during a recent audit by the restaurant.

Esquerre was arrested at her Metairie residence and, as of Thursday, was being held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center on a $268,000 bond.
