The Cyber Police Station of South District, Delhi Police, has arrested Tarun Rastogi (38) for defrauding individuals of over Rs8.8 lakh by impersonating a travel agent and issuing fake air tickets.
According to DCP South District Ankit Chauhan, the victim first contacted Rastogi on April 26, who claimed to represent Jetways Travels Pvt Ltd and offered a business collaboration for flight bookings. Rastogi initially gained trust by issuing four legitimate tickets with authentic receipts sent via the company’s official email.
However, between April 29 and May 7, the complainant transferred Rs8,82,158 for seven bookings, which were later cancelled without any refund or notice. Subsequent follow-ups went unanswered, prompting a police investigation.
Tracing financial transactions and online activity led to Rastogi’s arrest. During interrogation, he admitted to working as a ticketing clerk at Jetways Travels in Barakhamba Road, Delhi. He initially issued genuine tickets to build trust but then diverted payments to his personal bank account while canceling bookings.
Police recovered crucial evidence including his mobile phone, laptop, debit card, bank passbook, and cheque books.
Further investigation revealed Rastogi is a commerce graduate and repeat offender involved in six prior cases across multiple Delhi police stations, including Barakhamba Road and Connaught Place, on charges of cheating and criminal breach of trust.
Authorities are now working to identify additional victims and unravel the full extent of his fraudulent activities.
