The Vakola Police made significant progress in tackling cybercrime by arresting five individuals involved in a series of fraudulent activities across India. The accused were apprehended from Rajasthan and Thane on Saturday, with their involvement stretching across multiple cases of cyber fraud.
The arrested suspects have been identified as Rajkaran Tanwar (19), Karan Segar (19), Mohammad Ansari (27), Miraj Akram (24), and Fujeel Ahmed Ansari (21). While Tanwar and Segar hail from Jaipur, Rajasthan, the rest are residents of Bhiwandi, Thane.
The latest incident that led to the arrests took place in January, when a 26-year-old resident from Santacruz (East) lost ₹Rs.4 lakh in a fake job scam. The victim was tricked into believing he had secured a legitimate job, only to fall victim to a task-based fraud scheme. Upon investigating the matter, the police found that the funds from the scam were traced to accounts in Rajasthan.
A police team was dispatched to Rajasthan, where they identified Tanwar and Segar, who had been assigned the task of transferring funds from one account to another. Later, the money was converted into cryptocurrency. The investigation expanded further, leading to the discovery of Mohammad Ansari’s involvement, who managed approximately 70 fake bank accounts that were not in his name. During questioning, Ansari revealed information that eventually led to the arrest of Miraj Akram and Fujeel Ahmed Ansari.
The arrested suspects are believed to have masterminded a massive nationwide scam, defrauding victims of over Rs30 crore. The police report includes three cyber fraud cases from West, East, and North India, where the suspects scammed victims of Rs7.27 crore, Rs41 lakh, and Rs14 lakh, respectively. Additional frauds were reported in Pune, Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), where the fraudsters duped individuals out of Rs22 lakh and Rs48 lakh.
The five accused were presented before the court and remanded to police custody until April 28 for further investigation. The police are continuing their efforts to uncover the full extent of this criminal operation and ensure justice for the victims involved.
