The Chandigarh Cyber Crime Cell has arrested four individuals in connection with a series of high-value online scams, including a fraudulent scheme claiming to be a talent search unit for the Rajasthan Royals.
The arrests followed investigations into three separate FIRs registered at the Cyber Crime police station. In one notable case registered on March 28, 2025, Kanav Khanna, a resident of Sector 21A, Chandigarh, was duped of over Rs1.08 crore.
The victim was lured through a deceptive WhatsApp group called “FF BlackRock Investment Institute,” which falsely claimed to be affiliated with the global investment firm BlackRock. The group initially provided small returns and allowed withdrawals to gain trust. However, when the investment grew, Kanav was threatened and coerced into paying additional amounts under the pretext of “taxes” to release his funds.
Further investigation uncovered that Rs49 lakh was transferred into a Bank of Baroda account held by Madhav Prajapati, a resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Madhav was arrested on June 26, 2025, during a raid in Barwala, Botad district. He confessed to opening the account under instructions from an unknown individual and handing over ATM cards and KYC documents in exchange for a commission of Rs20,000.
In another case registered on March 26, 2025, Satinderpal Singh Chahal from Sector 40, Chandigarh, was tricked by fraudsters who claimed a FedEx parcel in his name contained narcotics. The fraudsters manipulated him into downloading Skype, which led to unauthorized access to his ICICI Bank account.
Chandigarh Cyber Police continue to probe the cases and are working to apprehend other individuals linked to this organized cyber fraud network.
