In a decisive move against narcotics trafficking, Excise officials in Cuttack seized heroin worth Rs 31 lakh and arrested two suspects during a high-stakes operation on October 27, 2025.
The accused, Basudev Das (23) and Saroj Kumar Rout (24)—both residents of Champapur under Byree police limits in Jajpur district—were allegedly transporting the contraband through Tangi Square and Manguli Square under Tangi police station jurisdiction. Acting on a tip-off, the excise team intercepted the duo before they could proceed further.
The operation was led by Excise Inspector Abani Kumar Mohapatra, with support from SIs Dibyajyoti Satyaprakash and Bibhuti Bhusan Pradhan, ASI Kishore Chandra Rout, and constables Manas Ranjan Behera, Deepak Kumar Sahoo, Biswanath Bhoi, and Ranjan Kumar Patra. Their coordinated efforts, based on precise intelligence, led to a successful seizure and arrest.
Officials confirmed that the seized heroin has been sent for forensic analysis, while further investigation is underway to trace the source and broader supply chain.
The crackdown has disrupted a key drug trafficking route and sent a strong warning to smugglers operating in the region. The Excise Department reaffirmed its commitment to curbing the narcotics trade and protecting public health.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies across Odisha continue to intensify surveillance and take strict action against drug networks to ensure a safer society.
