Curry Dodd, Jeffrey Whittaker Charged in $40K Tool Theft Case

Edmonson County men arrested after months-long investigation

BROWNSVILLE, Ky. — Two Edmonson County men have been arrested and charged in connection with a large-scale stolen tool operation that spanned multiple months and counties, according to the Edmonson County Sheriff’s Office.

Curry Dodd, 30, and Jeffrey Whittaker, 40, both of Brownsville, were arrested after a nearly four-month investigation led by Chief Deputy Clay Deweese. The operation culminated at a residence on Indian Creek Road, where thousands of dollars in stolen tools were recovered.

The case began in March, when a Bowling Green Police detective contacted Deweese with information about a suspect believed to be operating in Edmonson County. On April 28, a Segal Road resident reported over $10,000 worth of tools stolen from a construction trailer at a Morgantown Road job site. A witness reported seeing a Ford pickup leaving the site around 4:30 a.m. without headlights.

The next day, Deweese learned that Curry Dodd had pawned a large number of Milwaukee-brand tools at Walk N Talk Pawn in Bowling Green. Surveillance video confirmed Dodd’s presence, and he had signed paperwork for the transaction. The pawned tools were marked and matched the stolen items, with over $2,000 in tools recovered from that single incident.

A second theft occurred soon after at a nearby job site, with $1,600 in tools reported stolen, prompting an arrest warrant for Dodd.

On visiting the 123 Indian Creek Road property, Deweese saw a large quantity of Dewalt tools in an outbuilding. Jeffrey Whittaker exited the structure and locked it, denying any knowledge of stolen goods. Meanwhile, Dodd fled on foot and evaded capture despite K9 tracking assistance.

On June 11, Dodd was picked up during a traffic stop in Bowling Green and transferred to Edmonson County authorities. Whittaker was arrested the next day at the same Indian Creek Road residence.

In total, approximately $40,000 worth of stolen tools were discovered, much of which has now been recovered. The Kentucky State Police also investigated a related case near the Edmonson-Barren county line.

Both Dodd and Whittaker face charges of:

Theft by unlawful taking or disposition over $10,000 (Class C felony)

Criminal mischief in the third degree

If convicted, each could face 5 to 10 years in prison. Additional charges in Warren County may follow, according to authorities.
