Monterrey Police arrested three suspects — Cuban national Liván O., Mexican citizen Jairo Rivaldo R., and Colombian national Bárbara M. — after an armed robbery of a woman selling a high-end cellphone led authorities to uncover a major stash of marijuana in the city center.
The incident occurred on November 24 around 2:50 p.m., when the suspects allegedly targeted a 38-year-old woman who had arranged to sell an iPhone 17, valued at roughly 34,000 pesos, through Facebook Marketplace. According to local reports, Liván O. entered the victim’s vehicle, pointed a firearm at her and her husband, and demanded the phone before fleeing on foot.
Responding officers quickly located the Cuban suspect near the scene as he tried to hide inside a residence. During the arrest, his two accomplices attempted to intervene and were also detained at the intersection of Juan Álvarez and 15 de Mayo streets. Police recovered a handgun from Liván O.
A subsequent search of the residence where he sought refuge revealed 89 one-kilogram bags of marijuana, totaling approximately 90 kilograms, along with a digital scale, a sealer, and packaging materials. Investigators believe the location may have been used for drug distribution.
The case is now under review by the Public Ministry specialized in drug dealing as authorities investigate possible links between the robbery and broader trafficking activities.
