LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) – A traffic stop in southern Indiana on July 16 led to the arrest of 21-year-old Cris Badillo and seven juveniles, after police discovered multiple stolen firearms, a high-speed chase, and illegal possession of weapons.
The Clarksville Police Department said the incident began when officers observed a truck speeding west on Brown Station Way, heading toward New Albany. One officer clocked the vehicle at 63 mph in a 45 mph zone, and another officer had to reach 90 mph to pursue it.
The chase ended in front of the Spring Manor apartments, where officers discovered four individuals crammed into the front seat of the single-cab truck and four more in the bed of the pickup.
Backup was requested due to being “extremely outnumbered.”
During the search, officers found:
A handgun stolen in a Shelbyville, Ky., carjacking
An AR-15 pistol with no serial number
A handgun with an altered serial number
A 3D-printed handgun with no identification
An extended magazine
Two realistic-looking BB guns
Two juveniles had handguns in their waistbands, and all minors were wearing black hoodies, jackets, and “Sheisty” masks. One teen bore a “5-point crown” tattoo, a symbol associated with the Latin Kings gang.
Badillo claimed he had picked up the juveniles from different Indiana locations earlier that night and said they had been “friends for a very long time.”
He faces:
7 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor
Reckless driving with endangerment
Neglect of a dependent
The juveniles, aged 16 to 17, were charged with:
Obliterating firearm identification
Theft of a firearm
Unlawful firearm possession
Possession of marijuana
All minors were taken to the Clark County Juvenile Detention Center.
Badillo was booked into Clark County Jail in Jeffersonville and released on a $500 bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for August 13.
The Indiana State Police, New Albany Police, and Clark County Sheriff’s Department assisted in the arrest.
