COVINGTON, Ga. — The theft of an iPad at a Baymont Inn led to the drug arrests of a Covington couple by the Covington Police Department on Friday.
Officer Daniel Digby was dispatched around 6 p.m. June 16 after a motel clerk reported that an iPad stored behind the front desk had gone missing. The clerk told police that he briefly stepped outside between 5:30 and 6 p.m. and returned to find a female wearing a blue “Rams” shirt behind the counter, who could not explain her presence. She left the motel, walking toward the Americas Best Value Inn, and the iPad was soon discovered missing.
Around 7 p.m., Officer Digby spotted the same woman walking with a man near the Shell gas station at Alcovy Road and City Pond Road. The pair was identified as Christi Morgan, 24, and Christopher Few, 24. When confronted about the stolen iPad, Morgan reportedly admitted taking it and said she wanted to return it to avoid jail. Few denied involvement.
Morgan led officers to room 212 at Americas Best, where a key from Few’s pocket opened the door. During the search for the tablet, officers observed a small plastic bag containing a substance that tested positive for methamphetamine. The iPad was also recovered using the owner’s location tracking device.
Both Morgan and Few were arrested and taken to the Newton County Detention Center. Morgan faces charges of theft by taking and possession of methamphetamine, while Few was charged with possession of methamphetamine.
