The Puttenahalli Police have arrested a couple for allegedly chasing and causing a fatal accident that killed a 24-year-old man following a case of road rage in JP Nagar, Bengaluru.
The accused have been identified as Manoj Kumar, a gym trainer, and his wife Aarti Sharma. The couple were arrested for their role in the death of Darshan (24) and for injuring Varun (24) near Sriram Layout, Phase 7, JP Nagar, on the night of October 25.
According to police, the incident began when Darshan’s scooter accidentally touched the mirror of Manoj Kumar’s car near Nataraja Layout, damaging it. Enraged, Manoj Kumar allegedly chased the scooter for nearly 2 km before intentionally ramming into it around 11:30 pm, causing Darshan’s death and leaving Varun severely injured.
Initially registered as a hit-and-run case, the incident was later reclassified as murder after CCTV footage revealed the couple’s deliberate pursuit and collision. Footage also showed the accused returning to the scene later, wearing masks, to pick up car debris in an attempt to destroy evidence.
A case has been registered at Puttenahalli Police Station under charges of murder and destruction of evidence. Both Manoj Kumar and Aarti Sharma have been remanded to judicial custody, said Lokesh B. Jagalasar, DCP (Bangalore South Division).
