MOULTON, Ala. — Joyce W. Jeffreys, a Moulton City Council member, has been arrested following a two-month investigation into debit card fraud, authorities confirmed.
According to the City of Moulton, the investigation began after a resident of Trinity reported mail theft. It was later discovered that the victim’s debit card had been fraudulently activated and used, with unauthorized funds withdrawn from their bank account.
The Moulton Police Department uncovered at least seven illegal transactions made within the city’s jurisdiction. This led investigators to obtain warrants for Jeffreys’ arrest.
She has been charged with:
Identity Theft
Theft of Property 1st Degree
Seven Counts of Fraudulent Use of a Debit Card
Jeffreys was taken into custody and booked into the Lawrence County Jail. Her bond has been set at $65,000.
Authorities stated the investigation remains ongoing and further charges may be possible.
