SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — Cory Cumings, owner of Mitchell Roofing & Siding, has a warrant out for his arrest after being charged with child abuse and two counts of possession of a firearm following a prior felony drug conviction.
The charges, filed Tuesday, come as Cumings is also facing a separate federal case in U.S. District Court. In 2023, a raid on his home and business allegedly uncovered drugs and hundreds of firearms, including a machine gun.
Under state law, individuals convicted of a Class 5 felony drug offense are prohibited from possessing firearms for at least five years after release from prison, probation, or parole.
The child abuse charges stem from an incident on October 18. The allegations arose after Cumings posted a Snapchat video of him hunting with his son. In the video, he can be heard yelling at his son to fire a shotgun, using profanity, and at one point threatening to leave without his son. Several viewers shared the video with KELOLAND News.
Possession of a firearm by a person with a prior felony drug conviction is a Class 6 felony, while child abuse is classified as a Class 4 felony in South Dakota.
According to court documents, DCI Special Agent Brian Larson testified before a grand jury regarding the indictment. As of October 28, Cumings has not been arrested, and no court date has been set for the child abuse and firearm charges.
KELOLAND News continues to review court documents and will provide updates online and on-air.
