BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. – A man from Peytona has been arrested in connection with a fatal car crash that occurred in May and claimed the life of a 69-year-old woman.
The Boone County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Cory Michael Cantley, 37, was taken into custody Tuesday morning on an outstanding warrant. He is charged with DUI causing death following the May 9 crash on WV Route 3 that resulted in the death of Donna Kay Campbell, a resident of Seth.
Deputies acted on the arrest after receiving toxicology results from the state crime lab, which supported the DUI charge.
“This was an unnecessary and preventable tragedy,” the sheriff’s office said in a public statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends, and coworkers of Donna Campbell as they continue to grieve.”
Cantley was arraigned Tuesday and is currently held in the Southwestern Regional Jail on a $100,000 surety-only bond.
Authorities remind the public that Cantley is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
