ELGIN, SC — Angela Crosland, 51, of Elgin, South Carolina, has been convicted on multiple charges, including bribery, money laundering, distribution of methamphetamine and suboxone, and filing false income tax returns, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of South Carolina announced today.

The Crimes at FCI Williamsburg
Crosland, while working as a correctional officer at Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Williamsburg in Salters, was found guilty of smuggling various contraband items into the prison in exchange for bribes. These items included K-2-soaked paper, marijuana, tobacco, food, and other prohibited goods.

Bribery and Tax Evasion
For nearly nine months, Crosland accepted bribes for her illegal activities, accumulating significant income which she failed to report on her federal tax returns. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) collaborated with law enforcement to uncover financial crimes associated with the case, bringing additional charges of money laundering and tax fraud.

Impact on Prison Safety
“This case highlights how an individual’s actions in a position of public trust can endanger the safety of both staff and inmates,” said U.S. Attorney Adair Ford Borough. “Crosland’s criminal activities compromised the integrity of our correctional system.”

Crosland’s conviction underscores the importance of accountability within public service, especially in law enforcement and corrections. She faces serious consequences for her role in undermining the safety and security of FCI Williamsburg.
