by Amelia Crawford

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Kansas — Cornelius Williams and Shequetta Dean were arrested on January 27 for possessing drugs following a traffic stop on U.S. Highway 75.

Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation. As the car pulled over, deputies noticed a large object being thrown from the front passenger window. Upon investigating the object, they found approximately one pound of suspected crystal meth.

The passenger, identified as Cornelius Williams, and the driver, Shequetta Dean, were then detained. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed an ounce of powder cocaine and an ounce of suspected crack cocaine.

Williams and Dean were taken into custody and booked into the Montgomery County Department of Corrections. After their arrest, authorities obtained a search warrant to inspect the Apple Tree Inn, where the suspects were staying. There, deputies uncovered drug distribution items, including scales, and over $6,000 in cash.

Sheriff Ron Wade praised the work of the deputies, emphasizing the importance of proactive law enforcement in combating illegal narcotics. “Our efforts against drug trafficking in our community are ongoing, and we are committed to stopping these harmful trades,” he said.

Williams and Dean are currently awaiting formal charges from the Montgomery County Attorney’s Office.
