The Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigations continues its probe into the deputy-involved shooting that occurred in May on Labruzza Lane near LA Hwy 40 in Independence.
As the investigation developed, detectives secured an arrest warrant from the 21st Judicial District Court charging 43-year-old Cornelius King Sr. of Independence with second-degree murder.
On May 21, after being discharged from a local hospital, King was arrested without incident and booked into the Tangipahoa Parish Jail. The investigation remains active, and authorities will release further information as it becomes available.
The incident led to the death of 48-year-old Elaine Davis of Hammond.
Preliminary details show that on May 8 at about 7:10 p.m., Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a domestic violence stabbing on Labruzza Lane.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered King, who had barricaded himself inside the residence. During the standoff, a deputy discharged their weapon, striking King. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Elaine Davis was also transported to a local hospital, where she later died from injuries sustained in the domestic violence incident.
