PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Corey Cornell Thomas, 44, of Prince Frederick, was arrested on June 22, 2025, after deputies found him trespassing on the grounds of Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church and allegedly discarding suspected cocaine as officers approached.
Deputies reported locating Thomas and another individual inside the church’s fenced playground, which displayed multiple “No Trespassing” signs. The arrest followed a recent drug investigation in which a K-9 alerted to narcotics in a vehicle Thomas had occupied earlier that evening.
According to Deputy R. Campbell’s statement of probable cause, Thomas was identified by his clothing from the earlier encounter. When deputies approached, Thomas was seen reaching into his front pocket and throwing objects, apparently attempting to discard contraband.
A search revealed two plastic bag tear-offs containing a white powder believed to be cocaine in Thomas’s pocket. Deputies also found a metal smoking device with burnt copper residue in his shoe, consistent with crack cocaine use. The suspected drugs were submitted to the Maryland State Police lab for analysis.
Thomas was charged with trespassing, possession of a controlled dangerous substance (cocaine), and possession of drug paraphernalia — all misdemeanors under Maryland law. He faces up to one year in jail and fines of up to $5,000 for the drug charge, plus penalties for paraphernalia and trespassing.
Known to deputies from prior encounters, Thomas is represented by the Calvert County Public Defender’s Office. He appeared before Judge Robert C. Wilcox on June 24 for a bond hearing and was held without bond pending further proceedings.
A jury trial is scheduled for July 23, 2025, in Calvert District Courthouse. The initial narcotics investigation related to the vehicle stop remains open but has not resulted in additional charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
