Neeraj Chaurasia, a trusted household cook, was arrested by Hazratganj police for stealing over Rs 7.5 lakh from his employer in an upscale residential apartment. The arrest took place within 12 hours of the reported theft, and police successfully recovered the entire stolen amount from Neeraj’s possession, said SHO Vikram Singh.
The case came to light when Sandeep, a resident of Shalimar Grand, reported that Rs 5 lakh was missing from a cupboard in his home where Neeraj worked as a cook. Suspicion arose after inconsistencies in Neeraj’s responses and when an earlier amount of Rs 50,000 was found missing.
During interrogation, Neeraj confessed to multiple thefts, revealing he had used duplicate keys to access his employer’s cupboard repeatedly. He admitted that part of the stolen money was spent on purchasing land. Police recovered a total of Rs 7,56,400 from Neeraj.
Chaurasia, originally from Unnao and residing in Lalabagh, Dubagga, was booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and produced before the court.
