Conway Man Sentenced to 10 Years for Multiple Crimes, Including Drug Trafficking and Domestic Violence
CONWAY, S.C. — Joshua Whitney, 30, of Conway, was sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, strong armed robbery, and first-degree domestic violence.
Whitney’s criminal activities span several years, with his most recent offenses occurring in 2022.
Key Details of the Case:
February 2022 Incident:
Whitney was involved in a police chase when U.S. Marshals and agents from the 15th Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit were surveilling a wanted person. Upon seeing the officers, Whitney fled the scene, crashing into two vehicles. He was armed with a handgun and eventually surrendered following an armed standoff. Police discovered a lockbox in Whitney’s vehicle containing 20 grams of fentanyl and 27 grams of methamphetamine, along with additional weapons and ammunition.
November 2021 Incident:
Whitney participated in a violent home invasion, using two sex workers to help gain entry to a victim’s home. During the robbery, Whitney pistol-whipped and assaulted the victim while attempting to burglarize the residence. The victim fired shots in self-defense as Whitney and his accomplices fled.
August 2022 Incident:
Whitney stalked and kidnapped his girlfriend at the time, forcing her into his vehicle and severely beating her. The victim was trapped in the truck for days and was told she would be burned alive. In a desperate bid to escape, the victim jumped from the moving truck, sustaining significant injuries, including road rash, bruises, black eyes, and a broken shoulder.
All of Whitney’s drug charges are second offenses, meaning he will be required to serve at least 85% of his sentence.
