NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) — A convicted felon is back behind bars after North Charleston police discovered a firearm and drugs during a traffic stop on Wednesday.
Davon Rashard Wilson, 32, was arrested and charged with:
Possession of a firearm by a felon
Possession of a firearm by an unlawful person
Possession with intent to distribute marijuana
According to the North Charleston Police Department, the incident began when officers observed a vehicle making an illegal U-turn at a marked intersection near Highway 78 and Blue House Road. The vehicle then pulled into the Home2 Suites parking lot, where police initiated a traffic stop.
Upon approaching the vehicle, officers immediately detected the odor of marijuana, which led to a probable cause search of the car.
During the search, officers recovered:
A large quantity of green plant material (suspected marijuana)
A box of clear plastic bags
A digital scale
Cash stored in the center console
A firearm located in the glovebox
Police confirmed that Wilson is prohibited from owning firearms due to prior felony convictions, including involuntary manslaughter.
He was booked into the Al Cannon Detention Center. The investigation remains ongoing.
