South Tripura: A missing person report filed just two days ago has led to the arrest of two men and the detention of the victim’s husband in connection with the murder of 45-year-old housewife Kana Debnath Das. Her decomposed body was recovered from a dense forest in Belonia Sub-division.

The case began when Prity Debnath, the victim’s daughter, filed a complaint at the Belonia Women Police Station, reporting her mother missing since July 28. An intensive investigation quickly identified three main accused.

Police arrested Dulan Das (28) and Mohammad Miah (35), residents of South Tripura, while the victim’s husband Raju Das was detained for questioning. Officers revealed that Raju Das, the victim’s second husband, allegedly hired the two men for Rs 50,000 to carry out the murder.

During media interactions, Mohammad Miah admitted that the victim was lured to the Kashari forest area, killed with a sharp knife, and her body was later discarded into the Belonia river. He also confirmed that Dulan Das received the payment directly from Raju Das.

Investigations revealed that Dulan Das had previously contested municipal elections as a Trinamool Congress candidate and was acquainted with the victim. Authorities believe he lured her from her home via phone calls before taking her to the crime scene.

The police used phone location tracking to confirm the suspects’ movements, leading to rapid arrests. The forensic team has been notified to examine evidence collected from the site, and further investigation is ongoing to reconstruct the complete sequence of events surrounding this alleged contract killing.

Authorities have stated that the case is still in its early stages, and efforts are underway to uncover all parties involved and establish the full motive.
