Commune Chairman Arrested in Nghe An for Drug Trafficking

Over 35 Kg of Drugs Seized During Police Operation

NGHE AN, Vietnam — Mua Ba Vu, the chairman of Na Ngoi Commune in Nghe An Province, was arrested on January 9, 2025, after being accused of transporting over 35 kg of drugs. Vu, who had been serving as the commune chairman for two years, was detained along with an accomplice during a police ambush operation.

Nghe An police intercepted Vu while he was traveling in a pickup truck, suspecting it was carrying illegal substances. Upon seeing law enforcement approaching, Vu and his accomplice attempted to flee but were apprehended.

A search of the vehicle revealed more than 35 kg of synthetic drugs and four packages of heroin, which were concealed in various compartments. Vu is currently under investigation as authorities process his suspension from his official position.
