A 39-year-old woman, A. Shanthi, has been arrested by the Coimbatore police for cheating a man of Rs2 lakh under the pretext of securing a job for his daughter in the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC). The incident, which unfolded in Coimbatore’s Vellalore area, has left the victim, C. Periyasamy, devastated after trusting Shanthi’s false promises.
Shanthi, who had completed only up to Class X education and worked in the clothing business, reportedly assured Periyasamy, a 40-year-old resident of Dharmaraj Nagar, that she could get his daughter a job as an office assistant in the local municipal corporation. However, after the victim handed over Rs2 lakh for the supposed job placement, Shanthi disappeared, leaving Periyasamy to file a complaint with the Podanur police.
After an investigation, the police arrested Shanthi, who was known for engaging in the sale of clothes. This arrest comes as part of efforts to clamp down on fraudulent practices involving fake job offers and financial scams in the region. Further inquiries are underway to determine if there are any more victims of this scheme.
