The Coimbatore city police have successfully busted a synthetic drug racket and arrested nine drug peddlers. The police seized a substantial quantity of 69 grams of methamphetamine, 20 LSD stamps, two cars, a motorcycle, and nine mobile phones during the operation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as:
S Mithunraj (27) – from Gudalur, Nilgiris district
Jaganathan (26) – from Udumalpet, Tirupur district
M Gokul (28) – from Kalapatti, Coimbatore city
M Aswin (25) – from Kollam, Kerala
S Riyas (32) – from Kollam, Kerala
A Amal (24) – from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala
A Abdul Saleem (46) – from Palakkad, Kerala
N Ansad (23) – from Alappuzha, Kerala
A Azarudheen (28) – from Gudalur, Nilgiris district
The operation began on February 27 when a special team led by sub-inspectors Dhanabal and Chellamani received a tip-off. The team first arrested Mithunraj, seizing seven grams of methamphetamine from him. Mithunraj had sourced the synthetic drug from Bengaluru.
Following Mithunraj’s arrest, the police seized six grams of methamphetamine from Jaganathan of Udumalpet. Jaganathan, an engineering graduate, had worked in a software firm in Bengaluru but quit his job after becoming addicted to synthetic drugs. Eventually, he turned to drug peddling.
