CHOCOWINITY, NC — The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a domestic homicide that occurred Saturday at a residence on Highway 102 in Chocowinity.
Deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a male subject had been shot. Upon arrival, they found both the victim and the suspected shooter inside the home.
The victim was airlifted to ECU Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
Authorities have arrested 26-year-old Cody Allen Mitchell, of Chocowinity. He is being held without bond at the Beaufort County Detention Center and charged with one count of Murder (N.C.G.S. 14-17).
Sheriff Hammonds confirmed the incident was an isolated domestic situation, stating there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The investigation remains active.
