TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) — A man and woman from Wamego were arrested Monday night after a traffic stop on Interstate 70 in downtown Topeka led to the discovery of illegal drugs, according to Shawnee County officials.
The suspects were identified as Clyde Jones III, 25, and Elizabeth A. Long, 28.
A Shawnee County sheriff’s deputy conducted the stop around S.E. 4th Street, pulling over a gray 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis for a traffic violation. A K-9 unit responded to assist, and during the investigation, the dog alerted to the presence of illegal narcotics in the vehicle.
Jones was arrested and booked into Shawnee County Jail on multiple charges:
Possession of an opiate, opium, narcotic or certain stimulant
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Trafficking contraband into a correctional facility
As of Wednesday morning, Jones remained in custody on a $1,000 bond.
Long was also arrested and charged with:
Distribution of an opiate, opium, narcotic or certain stimulant
Possession of drug paraphernalia
She has since bonded out of jail.
Authorities confirmed that the case remains under investigation by the Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office.
