A Cleethorpes man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for subjecting a woman to relentless verbal abuse, sexual assault, and coercive control.
Clive Lennon, 44, was convicted at Hull Crown Court in October 2025 following a five-day trial. He was found guilty of sexual assault by penetration and coercive and controlling behaviour. In addition to his prison sentence, Lennon received a lifetime restraining order.
Humberside Police launched an investigation after the victim came forward in April 2025, reporting Lennon’s sustained verbal abuse and manipulative control. Subsequent disclosures led to his arrest for sexual assault by penetration. Despite denying all charges during police interviews, he was remanded in custody as evidence mounted.
Police Constable Imran Akbar, from the Protecting Vulnerable People Unit, praised the victim’s bravery and said: “This woman endured unrelenting derogatory and degrading abuse. Lennon’s conduct severely impacted her daily life, including threats to her and her pets. We commend her courage and urge all victims or witnesses of abuse to come forward. We take all reports seriously and will hold offenders to account.”
Humberside Police reminded the public that if someone is in immediate danger, they should call 999. If unable to speak, callers can cough, tap the handset, or press 55. For non-emergencies, call 101.
This conviction sends a strong message that domestic and sexual abuse will not be tolerated in Cleethorpes or beyond.
