MOBILE, Ala. — A man with a violent criminal history is back in jail after a standoff with police early Monday morning in Midtown Mobile.
Clarence White, 43, was arrested after allegedly firing shots at officers and barricading himself inside a home on Randolph Street around 1:30 a.m. The Mobile Police Department said White, already wanted for several domestic violence-related warrants, was located at the home and began threatening officers upon their arrival.
Police say White fired shots from a window before the SWAT team was called in. Negotiators were able to de-escalate the situation, and after nearly two hours, White surrendered peacefully.
He was taken into custody without injury and later escorted to the Mobile County Metro Jail wearing a mesh spit mask. While being led to a squad car, he ignored reporters’ questions and muttered, “Someone is going to pay for this.”
White is facing multiple charges, including:
Attempted murder
Possession of a firearm by a prohibited person
Multiple outstanding domestic violence warrants
This is not White’s first run-in with the law. Jail records show he was previously booked on domestic violence charges as recently as October. The residence where the standoff occurred has also been connected to past domestic violence cases involving him.
Roads in the area were closed for several hours, and neighbors expressed concern over the heavy police presence in the early morning hours.
The investigation remains ongoing, and more charges may be filed.
