CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — A shoplifting incident at a Morris Road business on October 9 led to the arrest of a Circleville woman who later faced additional charges for resisting officers.
Police reports indicate that officers were dispatched around 7:45 p.m. after staff observed a woman in a black hoodie placing items in her purse and leaving without paying. Witnesses identified the suspect’s vehicle as a 1999 tan Buick LeSabre, which officers later stopped.
The passenger, 40-year-old Brandy Bivens, was found to have an active warrant. When taken into custody, Bivens became combative, slipping a handcuff and refusing to cooperate. Body camera footage shows her kicking the inside of the cruiser and attempting to move her restraints to the front of her body. Officers eventually re-secured the cuffs after what they described as “passive aggressive” resistance.
A search of Bivens’ purse revealed $86.24 in merchandise with store tags still attached. The items were returned to the business and documented as evidence.
Bivens was charged with theft and resisting arrest and later transported to the Pickaway County Sheriff’s Office without further incident.
