HULL, Iowa — A Hudson woman was arrested on Monday, May 5, on a Sioux County warrant for fifth-degree theft, following an incident at the Hull SpringFest Craft & Vendor Show a day earlier.

Cindy Lou Havelaar, 61, was taken into custody just one day before her 62nd birthday. The arrest stems from allegations that she stole two sets of earrings from a booth during the event, which took place at the Hull Community Building around 1:30 p.m. on May 4.

According to the Sioux County Sheriff’s Office, two witnesses observed Havelaar lingering near the booth, with one stating they saw her place the earrings into her bag and leave without paying. That witness followed her outside and took photographs of both Havelaar and her vehicle, a 2005 Ford Focus, which was later traced to her through its license plate.

Security footage from inside the venue further showed Havelaar allegedly taking multiple items, possibly including a necklace set, and placing them in her bag.

A warrant for her arrest was issued June 21, and she now faces charges of fifth-degree theft, which in Iowa applies to property valued at less than $300.
