The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested Punit Agrawal, director of Ranchi-based Rajbir Construction Company, late Monday in connection with a forest land scam involving over 100 acres in Tetuliya Mauza, Bokaro district.
Agrawal was apprehended from his residence in a Lalpur police station jurisdiction apartment and was promptly presented before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
He is accused of establishing a fake company, funneling funds from Rajbir Construction into it, and using this setup to illegally purchase forest land in Bokaro.
This land, initially acquired for Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), was later returned to the forest department after remaining unused. During the interim period, land sharks illegally registered the land in their names.
The CID, led by Inspector General Sudarshan Mandal, has made three arrests so far in this ongoing investigation. Izhar Hussain and Azhar Hussain were arrested last Saturday in Bokaro.
Authorities have stated that all three will be placed under police remand for further questioning and to uncover more details about the scam.
