Christopher Salter Arrested for Fake 911 Call in N.C.

Deputies say Salter made false report of ATV crash

by Amelia Crawford

BETTIE, N.C. — Carteret County deputies arrested 23-year-old Christopher Wayne Salter on January 25, 2014, for allegedly placing a fictitious 911 call about a four-wheeler crash with injuries.

According to authorities, Salter contacted Carteret County Emergency Communications and falsely reported a serious ATV accident, claiming someone had been hurt. Emergency responders rushed to the reported location, only to find there was no accident.

After an investigation, deputies determined the call was a hoax. Salter was taken into custody and is facing charges related to misuse of emergency communications.

Law enforcement officials emphasize that false emergency calls not only waste critical resources but also potentially endanger real victims in need of urgent assistance.

The sheriff’s office is reminding the public that making fake 911 calls is a criminal offense and will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
