STRASBURG, Va. (WHSV) – A routine traffic stop in Strasburg, Virginia turned into a significant drug bust Wednesday when the Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), with the help of Narcotics K-9 Axel, arrested a Maryland man and seized several controlled substances.
The stop took place in the 2000 block of John Marshall Highway, where K-9 Axel gave a positive alert on the vehicle. A subsequent search uncovered:
Five capsules of suspected fentanyl
Five vials of suspected cocaine
Suboxone strips
Various controlled substance tablets
Multiple syringes
The driver was identified as Christopher Corey Powers, a resident of Dundalk, Maryland. He was taken into custody and is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Shenandoah Warren Regional Jail.
Powers currently faces several charges, including:
§18.2-250: Possession of Schedule I or II Controlled Substance
§46.2-300: Driving Without a License
§46.2-821: Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign
§19.2-100: Fugitive from Justice
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed against Powers.
The Shenandoah County Sheriff’s Office credited the success of the operation to K-9 Axel and continued collaboration between law enforcement agencies to curb illegal drug activity in the region.
