GREENVILLE, N.C. — Police have arrested a suspect and recovered up to $250,000 worth of stolen property after a break-in at a Greenville construction company led to a larger multi-county theft investigation.
Christopher Jamison Perry, 43, was taken into custody Tuesday after detectives tracked a suspect vehicle seen on surveillance footage during a theft at Edwards Inc., located at 305 Easy St. The company reported on Monday that welding equipment and other tools, valued at approximately $30,000, were stolen from its fenced-in lot over the weekend.
The Greenville Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center used traffic cameras to track the dark-colored Jeep SUV believed to be involved. Officers located the vehicle at 2204 English Court, just 1.5 miles from the crime scene. Equipment matching the stolen items was visible in the backyard.
Perry was detained as he exited the residence. A search warrant was executed, leading to the discovery of numerous stolen items—some tied to other thefts in surrounding counties.
By Wednesday, detectives had recovered property with an estimated value between $200,000 and $250,000. Authorities are still working to match recovered items to victims across multiple jurisdictions, including Pitt, Bertie, and Martin counties, along with ECU and Greenville police.
Some victims may not yet be aware that their property was stolen, police said.
Perry has been charged with breaking and entering, possession of stolen goods, and damage to property, with additional charges expected as the investigation continues.
