Christopher McDowell Arrested for Jewelry Theft in Troup

Handyman accused of stealing from elderly woman’s home

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KETK) — A handyman in Troup, Christopher McDowell, 53, was arrested for allegedly stealing thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry from an elderly woman’s home while working there.

The Smith County Sheriff’s Office said the victim noticed the handyman spent an unusually long time in her bedroom and checked her jewelry box during a visit. Afterward, several valuable items were found missing.

Investigators recovered most of the stolen jewelry and identified McDowell as the suspect.

On Wednesday night around 10:45 p.m., Troup Police arrested McDowell, who was booked into the Smith County Jail.

He faces charges of theft of property valued between $2,500 and $30,000, and his bond was set at $100,000.
