A Panama City man is facing multiple charges after police say he tried to shoot his wife during a violent domestic dispute — but was stopped by a misfired weapon.
According to the Panama City Police Department, officers responded to a home on East 4th Street just after 10 a.m. on Monday, May 26. The 911 call, made by a woman reporting a fight with her husband, captured her pleading for her life during the altercation.
Investigators say Christopher Dugent became aggressive during the argument and allegedly attempted to prevent his wife from leaving the home. He then retrieved a firearm from their car, which authorities confirmed belonged to the victim. Dugent reportedly tried to shoot her, but the gun failed to fire due to improper loading.
He was arrested at the scene without further incident and is currently being held in the Bay County Jail.
Dugent faces several serious charges, including:
Attempted murder
False imprisonment
Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
Violation of probation
The case is under active investigation, and no further injuries were reported. Authorities say the victim narrowly escaped what could have been a fatal outcome.
