A Fort Worth man, Christopher Jerome Blanton Jr., 29, has been charged with murder following a shooting that left 32-year-old Cody Davontae Scott dead. The incident occurred Monday afternoon on East Berry Street.

According to police reports, Scott was found in the driver’s seat of his vehicle with a fatal gunshot wound around 2:55 p.m. Authorities identified Blanton as the shooter after investigating the scene and witness statements.

Blanton claimed he felt threatened, believing Scott’s vehicle was following him. However, a passenger in Blanton’s car told investigators that Scott’s windows were heavily tinted, making it impossible to see inside. The passenger expressed confusion over why Blanton would shoot, as no visible threat was apparent.

Further witness accounts and physical evidence at the scene contradicted Blanton’s claim that he was threatened by Scott. Blanton allegedly told his passenger to lean back just before firing the gun at Scott’s vehicle.

Blanton is currently held at the Tarrant County Jail on a $150,000 bond, charged with murder. The victim, Cody Scott, succumbed to his injuries following the shooting and a subsequent crash.
