49-year-old Christopher Alan Smith was arrested by Morganton Public Safety Officers on multiple charges following a traffic stop. Smith, from Morganton, faces charges of possession with intent to sell and deliver a Schedule II controlled substance (methamphetamine), driving while license revoked, and displaying a revoked license plate.
The arrest occurred on March 26 when a Morganton Public Safety Officer stopped a white Ford Mustang for displaying a revoked license plate. Smith was found to be driving the vehicle, and further investigation revealed his driver’s license had been suspended. Smith, who was on probation, was also subject to a warrantless search.
During the search of the vehicle, officers reportedly found approximately 15 grams of a clear, crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine. Smith allegedly admitted to owning the drugs.
Smith was placed in the Burke County Jail without bond and is scheduled for a District Court appearance on April 17.
