CROSSVILLE, Tenn. — Two men were arrested early Friday, October 10, 2025, after allegedly stealing a trailer and other property in Cumberland County, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded around 6:45 a.m. to a report of theft on Shorty Barnes Road in Crossville. The victim told authorities that two suspects — Christian Gage Houston and Kenneth Andrew Toebbe — were seen hooking up a 16-foot bumper pull trailer, valued at $700, to a gold or pewter SUV.
When the homeowner confronted them, the suspects fled with the trailer. The victim followed in their own vehicle while on the phone with 911, providing live updates to dispatchers.
Deputies said the suspects turned into the Budget Blinds parking lot near the intersection of Shorty Barnes Road and Peavine Road, where they unhooked the trailer. The victim then blocked their SUV to prevent escape until officers arrived.
Deputy Brent Griffin arrested both suspects at the scene. A search of their vehicle uncovered several suspected stolen items, including weed eaters, chainsaws, power tools, drills, three BB pistols, and two active walkie-talkies believed to be used during the theft. Deputies also found the SUV’s license plate hidden in the trunk, likely to avoid detection.
All evidence, including photographs and serial numbers, was documented, and the stolen trailer was returned to the owner.
Houston was charged with theft of property and given an $8,000 bond, while Toebbe was charged with theft up to $1,000 and received a $4,000 bond. Both men are scheduled to appear in court on November 3, 2025.
