Spring Valley police have arrested Christian Guzman-Loera, 26, in connection with the death of a man found in an abandoned building at 10 Centre Street. Guzman-Loera has been charged with second-degree murder following the fatal incident, which occurred sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday.
According to a felony complaint, Guzman-Loera, a homeless man, used a piece of wood to strike another man in the head and body. After the assault, Guzman-Loera left the victim in the freezing temperatures, leading to the man’s death.
The victim’s body was discovered in the abandoned building, a location that local businesses report has been a site of recurring issues with homelessness.
Guzman-Loera was arraigned and has since been remanded to Rockland County Jail. The investigation continues as authorities work to piece together the details of the tragic incident.
