BLACKBURN, UK — A banned driver has been jailed following multiple shoplifting offences in Blackburn.
On October 2, police were alerted to reports of a wanted male seen in the Eanam area. Officers responded and arrested Chris Hamer, 37, of Clayton Street, Blackburn, for theft from a shop.
Hamer was subsequently charged with:
Five counts of theft from a shop
Two counts of making off without payment
Disqualified driving
He appeared at Blackburn Magistrates Court on Monday, November 3, where he was sentenced to eight weeks in prison.
Local Neighbourhood Sergeant Charlotte Mikolajewski emphasized the impact of shoplifting on the community and encouraged residents to report concerns via Lancashire Talking.
The arrest was part of Operation Vulture, Lancashire Constabulary’s initiative targeting shoplifting, supported by Police and Crime Commissioner Clive Grunshaw and the Lancashire Partnership Against Crime (LANPAC).
Grunshaw added that the county is committed to a proactive approach to shoplifting, improving protection for shop workers, and strengthening police-retailer relationships.
