Guntur, October 17 – In a major cybercrime bust, the Pattabhipuram police along with the IT Core wing of Guntur district police arrested Choda Chaitanya Krishna Pawan (27), who allegedly ran a fake call boy recruitment racket on Facebook, cheating victims of large sums—including nearly Rs1 crore from a 68-year-old man.
A resident of Inkollu village in Bapatla district, Pawan used two mobile phones and seven SIM cards to carry out the scam.
According to Guntur SP Vakul Jindal, the accused created fake Facebook profiles under female names like:
Sailaja.Marni
Sunitha.sunitha
Neelima
He sent friend requests to random men and then offered them “call boy” jobs with high pay. To gain trust, he shared aclaiming it belonged to a current call boy. That number was his own, and he would change his voice to convince the victims.
Pawan would ask victims to transfer Rs20,000 to Rs30,000 as a registration or ID card fee. After getting the money, he would take the scam further by:
Impersonating police officers, including constables, SIs, and CIs
Pretending to be a high court advocate
Threatening legal action for online harassment
This intimidation led victims to transfer more money, fearing arrest or legal trouble.
The accused was booked under:
Section 318(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
Sections 66(C) & 66(D) of the IT Act
The complaint was filed by a 68-year-old man from SVN Colony, who lost close to ₹1 crore in the scam.
