In a major crackdown, Chittorgarh police on Thursday arrested four members of a burglary gang involved in a series of thefts across the city and seized the tempo used in their crimes, officials said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Manish Tripathi said the arrests came after a case in which thieves broke into Anand Super Market, owned by Ashish Chhipa, on Chittorgarh–Bhilwara Road during the night of October 13–14. The gang stole goods worth Rs2.5 lakh and Rs4,200 in cash.
A special police team led by Kotwali Station Officer Tulsiram, under the supervision of ASP Sarita Singh, traced and arrested the culprits: Nishar Mohammad (25), Imran Mohammad (28), Abhishek Damami (25), and Jagdish Jatiya (24). During interrogation, the accused confessed to the theft and admitted involvement in three other burglaries in the city.
Police said the gang leader, Nishar Mohammad, used his CNG tempo to conduct daytime reconnaissance of locked shops and houses, posing as a passenger driver. At night, he and his accomplices would break into targeted premises, steal goods, and divide the loot among themselves.
Authorities have recovered the tempo and are investigating the gang’s possible links to additional burglaries in Chittorgarh. SP Tripathi praised the team for their swift investigation and arrest of the repeat offenders.
