Chirang Police have busted an organised ethanol theft racket operating along the supply route to the Bongaigaon Refinery, arresting five individuals and seizing two tankers in the district.
According to police, the racket involved siphoning ethanol transported by tankers from outside the state to the refinery, which operates under Indian Oil Corporation Limited at Dhaligaon. The accused allegedly mixed water into the tankers after stealing a portion of ethanol before delivery to the refinery.
Chirang SP Dhruva Bora stated that police acted on specific intelligence inputs and conducted a targeted operation, intercepting tankers NL-01AJ-5079 and NL-01AF-2066.
The arrested individuals are:
Bishnu Mani Das (30) – Satipur village
Mihir Deb (45) – Tripura
Ringkhang Narzary (37) – Gosainigaon, Udalguri district
Mobarak Ali (35) – Barpathar village
Azimuddin Ali (42) – Baikhunggaon
A case has been registered at Kajalgaon Police Station (Case No. 14/2026), and further investigation is underway to uncover the full extent of the racket and identify other possible participants. Authorities have indicated that more arrests could follow, and strict action will be taken against those tampering with critical industrial supplies.
