Berhampur police on Saturday arrested three burglars and recovered looted property worth over Rs35 lakh, officials said. The accused have been linked to at least five burglary cases, including two in Berhampur town and three under Nimakhandi police stations.

The arrested have been identified as:

Chintu Sethy (28) of Laxmi Nagar

Deepak Kumar Pattanaik (33) of Laxmi Bihar

Akash Kumar Behera (32) of Chandramapeta Sahi

According to SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M, police seized cash of over Rs8.5 lakh, gold weighing 182.16 gm, silver weighing 296 gm, a two-wheeler, a cutter, and a rod from the trio — items collectively valued at over Rs35 lakh.

CCTV footage helped police identify the accused. Investigation revealed that the trio had targeted locked houses, breaking open locks to steal gold, silver, cash, and other valuables. Their last registered burglary was reported at Nimakhandi Police Station in the Lochapada area on December 28, 2025.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to their crimes. Sethy revealed that the group would patrol the city and its outskirts during late-night hours, identifying houses with locks to break open and loot.

Police are continuing the investigation to determine if additional members were involved in the gang.
