Chintu Sethy, Two Others Arrested in Rs35 Lakh Burglary

Ganjam burglars involved in five thefts; valuables recovered

Odisha Police have arrested three burglars involved in five theft cases and recovered looted properties worth over Rs35 lakh from them in Ganjam district, officials said on Sunday.

The accused have been identified as Chintu Sethy (28), the prime accused, Deepak Kumar Pattanaik (33), and Akash Kumar Behera (32), all residents of Berhampur.

Police said the trio was involved in two theft cases registered at Berhampur Town Police Station and three cases at Nimakhandi Police Station. During the investigation, police seized Rs8.50 lakh in cash, gold ornaments weighing 182.16 grams, 296 grams of silver, and a scooter, totaling over Rs35 lakh in recovered valuables, according to SP (Berhampur) Saravana Vivek M.

During interrogation, the accused confessed to the crimes. Investigations revealed that the trio targeted locked houses, breaking locks to steal gold, silver, cash, and other valuables. They reportedly roamed around the city and nearby areas during late-night hours to identify potential targets.

Police traced the burglars using CCTV footage, leading to their arrest on Saturday. Authorities said further investigation is underway to determine if the accused were involved in other similar thefts in the district.
