A Chicago man, Tymarion Averyhart, 19, has been charged with multiple felonies, including aggravated criminal sexual assault, following a brutal attack on a 21-year-old woman in Rogers Park last week.
Averyhart faces one felony count of aggravated criminal sexual assault with a weapon, one felony count of aggravated criminal sexual assault, one felony count of home invasion/sex offense, one felony count of aggravated armed kidnapping, one felony count of aggravated unlawful restraint, and three felony counts of residential burglary.
According to police, the attack occurred on Thursday night, shortly after 11 p.m., in the 1800 block of West Lunt Avenue. The victim was walking through a gangway when Averyhart approached her, armed with a knife, and sexually assaulted her. Afterward, the victim went to the police station to report the assault, and she was taken to the hospital, where she was listed in good condition.
Averyhart was apprehended in the 1800 block of West Greenleaf Avenue. Authorities believe he is responsible for five other similar attacks in the West Ridge neighborhood dating back to December 2024. He has also been charged in connection with the sexual assault of a 27-year-old woman in the 6200 block of North Bell Avenue on December 26, 2024, as well as two additional burglaries in the same area on December 28, 2024, and January 10, 2025.
However, Averyhart was not charged in the attacks that took place on March 25 and April 25, 2025, as mentioned in a community alert. At a hearing on Sunday, Averyhart was ordered to remain detained until his trial.
