Police in Govind Nagar have arrested three men for allegedly stealing a donation box from a Durga temple. The arrests were confirmed by DCP South Deependra Nath Chaudhary.
Theft at Durga Mandir
The incident occurred on March 6 at the Durga Mandir, 13 Block, where the thieves entered the temple by cutting the window grill and stole the donation box. The temple priest discovered the theft the next day and immediately informed the police.
Investigation and Arrests
Govind Nagar police examined CCTV footage from the temple and surrounding areas. After scanning nearly 110 CCTV recordings, the officers identified and arrested the following accused:
Chhotu Kumar, resident of Ramasre Nagar Kachchi Basti
Sumit Balmiki, resident of Ramasre Nagar Kachchi Basti
Krishna alias Utkarsh Shukla, resident of Gujaini F Block
Recovery of Stolen Amount
The donation box contained approximately Rs20,000, which the accused reportedly distributed among themselves and discarded at the railway ground, Nirala Nagar.
One of the accused used a portion to buy a mobile phone.
The remaining money was reportedly spent on liquor.
Police have successfully recovered the donation box.
Cases Registered
Chhotu Kumar and Sumit Balmiki: Three cases each at Govind Nagar Police Station.
Krishna alias Utkarsh Shukla: Two cases at Govind Nagar and Barra Police Stations.
Authorities continue to investigate any possible accomplices involved in the temple theft.
